Best Places to Live by Astrology: How to Shortlist Cities

No chart can name your best place to live, but astrocartography can shortlist cities. A five-step method, a worked example and what to check next.

Jupiter MC and IC and Venus MC lines of the example chart with Palembang, Philadelphia and PortoPalembangPhiladelphiaPorto

The free map’s top three places for the example chart, each on a supportive line.

Astrology cannot tell you where you will be happiest, and nobody can. What astrocartography can do is turn a vague question into a short, explainable list of places to look at: cities that sit near the lines of your chart that match what you want. Used that way, it is a prompt for insight and reflection, and it works best when the final choice rests on real-world facts.

Start with the question, not the planet

Different questions point to different lines. This is how ElevenMaps weighs them when it ranks places, so you can see the logic. Other astrologers choose differently.

If you are asking aboutPlanets that count mostAngles that count most
Love and relationshipsVenus, then Moon and JupiterDSC first, then ASC
Career and visibilitySun and JupiterMC first, then ASC
Home and belongingMoon first, then Venus and JupiterIC first, then ASC and DSC
Everything at once (the free map)Venus and Jupiter, then Sun and MoonAll four angles equally

A worked example

On our example chart (Casablanca, 14 May 1992, 12:00) the free map’s top three places are Palembang in Indonesia, right on the Jupiter MC line (0 km); Philadelphia in the United States, within a few kilometres of the Jupiter IC line; and Porto in Portugal, 19 km from the Venus MC line. They have little in common as places. What they share is a supportive planet nearly on an angle:

  • Palembang: Jupiter on the MC. Often linked with opportunity in public life.
  • Philadelphia: Jupiter on the IC. Often linked with growth around home and roots.
  • Porto: Venus on the MC. Often linked with ease and being liked.

A good list is only the first step. Nothing here says Palembang has the jobs, Philadelphia the right neighbourhood or Porto the right rent for you.

Shortlist cities in five steps

  1. Pick one question. Love, work or home. A map answers a focused question better than “where should I live?”.
  2. List the lines near each candidate. Within about 150 km counts as on the line; the effect fades towards 700 km.
  3. Note the demanding lines. Mars, Saturn, Pluto and Neptune lines within 300 km lower a place’s score in our ranking. They are not a veto: they may ask for more effort or patience.
  4. Compare two or three places rather than hunting for a winner.
  5. Test the survivors against real life: cost, language, work, visas, climate and people. Then visit.

When a place has more than one line

A place can sit near several lines at once. On our example chart Baton Rouge in the United States is 29 km from the Pluto DSC line and 30 km from the Saturn MC line. Both are demanding lines, so the ranking would mark it down, and a reader might call it heavy. It might also suit someone who wants depth and focus. That is why every influence is shown, not only the best one. Read the Pluto line and Saturn line guides for more.

If you are comparing places inside one country, the Expat Map ranks its towns by the lines near them. For a list across the whole world, the full astrocartography report gives your top 20.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best place to live according to astrology?

There is no single answer. It depends on your chart and on what you are asking: love, work or home. A map gives you places to explore, not a verdict.

Which planet lines are best to live on?

Traditionally Venus and Jupiter are called supportive, and the Moon IC is linked with feeling at home. Many people also choose a demanding line on purpose for focus or drive.

Can astrology tell me where to move?

No. It can give you a structured way to think about places, but moving also depends on money, work, visas, family and language, which a chart cannot see.

How many cities should I shortlist?

Two or three. More than that and the lines stop helping you choose.
